The days are finally getting longer, which means it's officially time to ponder over a new spring 2024 hair color. I'm all for the usual go-to spring hair colors of years past: A full head of blonde highlights, warm-brown balayage looks, and strawberry-blonde hair colors. But I'm also excited about the potential for brighter, bolder, flashier hair colors for 2024, such as white baby blonde, apricot orange, and light pink. It's the season of blooming flowers and afternoon sunshine, after all. Don't worry though, I've already begun compiling inspo, courtesy of a few hairstylists' predictions for the biggest spring hair color trends. Keep scrolling for all of their picks, as well as a few tried-and-true favorite shades for spring:

1

Chantilly-Cream Hair Color for Spring 2024

After Beyoncé debuted this ultra-light blonde this fall, I knew it would suddenly be the "it" shade for spring and summer. And hairstylist Laura Rugetti agrees: “The majority of my clients are always trying to go lighter for spring,” she says. Basically just picture a tub of delicious, whipped chantily cream, and that's the shade. It’s perfect for anyone who’s already done the warm, golden blondes and is looking for a bolder color. It’s fairly neutral—not too golden or icy—so it’ll require bi-monthly toning appointments to keep the color right (and prob some weekly purple shampoo too).

2

Strawberry Soda for Spring 2024

If you usually swap your red wine for rosé in the springtime, maybe try doing the same with your hair color too? This vivid, light pink shade is so ~the moment~. Megan Fox's hairstylist Dimitris Giannetos used Manic Panic Cotton Candy Pink semi-permanent dye, likely mixed with conditioner to get this demure pink color.

Let's be real, though, you're gonna need to bleach your entire head to get this pastel pink shade, which is not exactly gentle on your hair. So to help prevent breakage, smooth on a bond-repair treatment like K18 (a favorite of Rugetti) or Olaplex (my one true love) once or twice a month.

3

Soft Ginger Hair for Spring

If you've been nervous to jump on the red hair color bandwagon every season but still have your eye on it a warmer, red-tone shade, try a soft ginger shade like the above on Emma Stone. It feels more muted than a standard auburn but has a lot more brunette depth in the shade than a standard ginger or copper hair color. If you've already got light-brown hair, just coat your hair in a copper hair glaze to get a warm hue.

Rich Espresso Hair Color for Spring

Dark brown for spring feels unexpected, which is exactly why it's cool for 2024 (and well, because Megan thee Stallion has it). But if you wanna make it a lil softer, ask for some face-framing babylights to break up the darkness a bit. Make sure you're washing with a sulfate-free shampoo for color-treated hair, as this deep color can fade with excessive washing or heat styling. And if you want to keep it dark and vibrant, layer on a deep-brown hair gloss once a month.

5

Brushed Bronde Hair Color for Spring 2024

Ever since Taylor Swift started wearing her natural, dark-blonde hair color, she's made even the most bleach-obsessed consider going the softer, richer route. This soft, brushed bronde shade looks majorly lived-in and natural, which also makes it a whole lot easier to maintain (a necessity for someone currently on a world tour, ahem). Feel free to start growing out your natural color a bit, and in the meantime, ask your colorist for an all-over warm-blonde toner to help your hair blend a bit better.

6

Buttercream Blonde Hair Color

“With blondes this spring, I’ve seen a huge transition from platinum and icy tones to more buttery, warm colors,” says hairstylist Glenn Ellis, like this creamy blonde on Gigi Hadid. “It has a very natural, warm-looking tone, but is still bright for spring.”

7

Caramel-Drizzle Hair Color

“The go-to spring colors for my clients every year, without fail, is a lived-in, low-maintenance balayage with lighter pieces on the ends and brighter highlights around their face,” says hairstylist Scott King. One of the trendiest ways to get the look for spring 2024 is with a caramel shade woven throughout a deep-brown base, like Iman’s look here. And to keep your hair ultra-shiny like her’s, mist a shine spray throughout when you’re finished styling.

8

Honey Blonde Hair Color

According to King, some of the top color requests for spring 2024 will be a light honey blonde, as seen above on Meghann Fahey. Ask your stylist to mix in various warm-blonde highlights and lowlights throughout your hair for a dimensional, beachy look (and feel free to also pair it with some beachy waves).

9

Shadow Roots for Spring

Tbh, my favorite thing about the shadow-root trend for spring is that it’s so easy to grow out. Unlike all-over blonde highlights that show a harsh line at your roots, this Sofia Richie–approved hair color blends fairly seamlessly with your roots and “subtly lightens and brightens your look,” says King. The result? Less time at the salon and more freedom as your hair grows.

10

Peekaboo Highlights for Spring

Peekaboo highlights in colorful shades, like Charli D’Amelio has here, will be the biggest Y2K trend of spring 2024. It’s reminiscent of all the underlayer colors that my friends and I tried in high school, but with a 2024 twist: using bold pastel and rainbow hair colors. Just know that you’re gonna have to bleach your hair to get highlights as vibrant as these, which can result in some damage, so make sure to slather on a protein treatment once or twice a month to help strengthen brittle strands.

11

Brown Balayage

“Regardless of trends, I find that everyone in the spring wants to go a bit lighter,” says Ellis. If you already have dark hair and want to add a bit of brightness through your ends, try a balayage in a lighter brown shade. It’s subtle, but offers a ~sunny~ transition to your hair before we enter summer.

12

Cherry-Cola Spring Hair Color

If you’re interested in testing out a warmer shade on your brunette hair, but you don’t necessarily want to go lighter, try injecting some red tones throughout to get Sophie Turner’s color above. According to Ellis, the shade is in “very-high demand right now,“ which makes sense, considering Kendall Jenner and Zoey Deutch have also tried it out recently.

13

Strawberry-Blonde Colors

“I always get requests for strawberry-blonde hair colors when springtime rolls around,” says Rugetti. And tbh, is anyone surprised, considering I also equate this warm, light hue with picnic season. To get a similar peachy shade without the commitment, coat your hair with a strawberry hair gloss hair gloss every week, or, if you want an even more vibrant look, try a color-depositing conditioner once a month.

14

Golden Blonde

Deeper and richer than honey blonde, “golden blonde has been one of the biggest requests this spring,” says hairstylist Laura Rugetti. The look, as seen above on Alix Earle, is a “mid-tone blonde with a slightly warmer base.” And you can get it on your blonde hair at home with a golden-blonde glaze, or ask your stylist to add blonde highlights and a golden toner to brighten your hair up a bit in the salon.

15

Warm Brown Hair for Spring

If you’re looking for a simple hair change to make you feel ~alive~ after winter, ask your colorist to warm up your hair tone or just smooth on a bronze color glaze yourself. The added warmth automatically makes this shade feel more spring-appropriate, like Chrissy Teigen’s walnut-brown hair above, without entering major highlight territory.

16

Neutral-Blonde Highlights

Blonde highlights for spring are a no-brainer, but it’s especially 2024 if they’re in a sandy tone like model Jordan Ozuna’s, here. After your stylist is finished bleaching your hair, ask them to whip up a neutral toner to leave you with this beachy color. Or, try to tone down the warmth at home with a neutralizing purple conditioner.

17

Babylights for Spring 2024

If you want a really natural look, ask your stylist for babylights, says Rugetti, which is when your colorist paints ultra-thin sections of hair with bleach to create seamless micro-highlights. The final look will be understated compared to a full head of chunky highlights, but will still add noticeable dimension to your hair for a fuller-looking finish.

18

Apricot Hair for Spring

If you're inspired by all the redheads in Hollywood (lookin’ at you, Anitta) but want to go a bit lighter for spring, try this apricot shade. It mixes together warm pinks and oranges to create a subdued red tone that still feels airy and light.

Blue Hair for Spring 2024

This spring, try out a vibrant-blue hair color with tons of shade variation. Exhibit A: These blue ombré braids, which combine the perfect blend of royal blue, navy, and black. And if you don't want to commit to a whole new dye job, you can grab a few bundles of blue braiding hair for your next braiding appt, or try a temporary blue tint if your hair is on the lighter side.

20

Tie-Dyed Hair for Spring

This hair color legit looks like you got hit with a bunch of paintballs to create a mismatched, colorful look that is so spring appropriate. If you wanna try the trend without the commitment of a permanent color tho, haphazardly smudge a few different shades of a temporary hair-color stick throughout your hair.
