I'm pretty bummed about EyeEm. They were a startup years ago when I lived on the North side of Chicago. I was so enthusiastic of their new venture as I felt it important for Instagram to have some competition. When has #monopoly ever been fun? I led photowalks and promoted their app. Should I have worked for free? Well, I understood the service they offered providing me value, just as everyone who uses social media is getting something out of it, otherwise no one would be burning their retinas with the blue backlight (Yes, thanks I know we can wear the #blueblocker glasses). Selling my early and more stock-like images seemed like a nice way to make a bit of mulah. It really was just a little bit. $130 over a decade is so small, why bother? right? Well when things happen, that has a ripple effect on other areas of life. This is getting long so the point is here: when I asked for this money to be paid out, it disappeared, never showed up. Technology glitch? I reached out to support, not even crickets...nothing. As much as I love the sound of silence...and I rarely get it, as even in an anechoic chamber our bodies are so noisy! The larger tidal wave is on making creatives appear irresponsible at best and total nuisance to society at the worst. Wanting to help, be useful, and do good work like anyone else in the world, I cannot longer stay silent. At this point, I think this is #cancelculture at its finest/worste. It is #unsustainable. I suppose this is what #closure looks like in a #professional #breakup : https://lnkd.in/dMajMTEs I still want to know, what do you think? Let things slide the way they are? or hold up some moral integrity? And yes, I realize it all is pretty divinely sad/funny. The #truth usually is humbling and humiliating in that way. GUIDING HANDS/HELD TOGETHER, 2018, 24" x 18", Prismacolors.Posting art on LinkedIn is a very specific thing, I think, but it also gives a chance to demonstrate your technical capabilities, understandings, and, most clearly, your discipline. This one took six months, roughly - and, an artwork about hands, has to be done BY hand, for it to really mean something. Digital may be seen often as the way of the future, but what I'm holding here in my hands is kinda one-of-a-kind.#artcollection #artbusiness #drawing
