She was very, very thin in her 20s and 30s. I'm her height and frame type, and to be as thin as she was, I'd have to eat no more than maybe 1,000 calories a day, if that. Not sustainable, and you risk backlash bingeing to the point of obesity.

Gene Tierney remarked in an interview long ago that she spent her career hungry to maintain her sleek figure. That's what it takes for most women, and it's just f*cking miserable.

She was so good in Scandal, I've met several people who hadn't realised she wasn't British. I'm a Brit and most of the time there's something 'off' when an American attempts a British accent, but Fonda's was perfect.

She was an excellent actress. We rewatched Singles a few months ago and she was emaciated - just shockingly thin. There is no way that she wasn't starving herself.

She looks happy and that is more than most celebrities (or people) can say.

Why should a nearly elderly woman be thin? I enjoyed so many films she was in in the 90’s. SINGLE WHITE FEMALE and POINT OF NO RETURN (I know it was a cheesy remake of Le Femme Nikita). In the late 80’s she was in an episode of 21 JUMP STREET about homeless youth that I liked a lot.

As a Dario Argento fan I was always fascinated that THE STENDHAL SYNDROME was created basically with her in mind as the lead, set in Arizona, and which she was vocal about being excited for because she herself was a big Argento fan at the time. But it all fell through.

When you severely restrict your food intake for extended periods of time (like a lot of actresses), your metabolism slows down because your body becomes more efficient at holding on to fat. This is especially true for women, who are biologically predisposed to have more fat to support estrogen production during the child bearing years.

A woman who starts eating normally (not excessively!) after starving for prolonged periods of time will gain weight much more easily and find it much harder to lose it. Menopause accelerates the weight gain, as do steroids and certain drugs.

And during that time she was in so much pain she was missing shows and people started calling her "unprofessional". When she could barely move.

She reminds me of my aunt, who was always extremely thin until she injured her knee skiing when she was 45. Now she's in her early 60s and has been enjoying life, just heavier than before.

She's still able to participate in life and is a warm, loving person.

We seem to have hit a nerve with R207, who possibly has their own battles with obesity to overcome. R206 isn't too far behind.

Why assume anyone who is either extremely overweight, or extremely thin, is "happy"?

There are many issues going on with these two extremes. I work in a field, where most of the women are severely underweight, most of these thin women are miserable, why assume obese people are happy? These extremely thin women have spent their entires lives dealing with staying underweight, because some shallow fashionistas told them it's acceptable and chic to look this way. Now we also have the 'fat positivity' movement which is led by celebrities such as Lizzo, neither is the norm.

Each extreme has their own issues as to why they are dealing with their weight issues. Instead of dealing with their problems, these people come up with various excuses, rather than deal with their weight, health and mental health issues. That's the reality of this situation.

It seems like any innocuous thing that these two do gets blown massively out of proportion. Why read so much doom and gloom into someone's life?

I never posted Bridget owes me, or anyone else, an explanation, but there is no way anyone can call the way she looks healthy. Being obese is not healthy.

Years ago, due to uterine cancer, my sister had a complete hysterectomy, She already had her children, so she didn't think twice about getting a complete hysterectomy, especially as ovarian cancer runs in the family. Why run the risk of ovarian cancer when you've already had your children? My sister opted for the complete hysterectomy.

My sister rgwn gained 50 pounds in less than a year. The oncologist gyno did tell her the massive weight gain was due to the hysterectomy messing up her hormones. Of course, he could not prescribe hormone replacement therapy, because those drugs could have caused more cancer in another part of her body. My sister has always been healthy, she doesn't like alcohol, never smoked, never ate ate junk food, always ate a healthy balanced diet.

In order to get back to her normal weight, she had to basically change her already healthy diet, she had to eat less, when she wasn't overeating to begin with! My sister eventually lost 40 pounds of the 50 pound weight gain. She continues to walk a lot more than she did before and isn't sedentary. She doesn't have a desk job, she works with an interior designer, she's always walking around, always busy.

It's a fact, hormonal problems sure screw up a lot. But do they normally cause a woman to double their weight?

R214 Yes, PCOS (plus diabetes or the Metabolic Syndrome X, as they call it) can in severe cases. Hard to treat sometimes, as well. Insulin resistance involved PCOS. I have PCOS and am in my 40s now. Diagnosed when I was 15. Never gained a ton of weight but have had tons of other issues from it that I still struggle with and known many in my PCOS support groups over the years that have gained twice their weight from it and the facial hair, the manly looking areas, it really f*cks up the body. Now, after pregnancy, if one is able to carry, it can go either extreme after or sometimes even chill out for a while, but its a weird syndrome. Menopause in PCOS can be even weirder. I've had weird weight losses from it but more the stomach disease I have that gets really exacerbated during my cycles and my cycles are such a mess and many meds for it screw me up in other ways. I did randomly gain from around 115 pounds to 180 pounds in a few months despite eating healthy and very active during a weird cycle where I didn't get my period for about 5-6 months. And I'm only 5 foot 1.

Remember the DM reply by a commenter last year that someone claiming to be Danny's former personal assistant said Bridget always struggled with her weight even prior to having her son? You can see in a series of pics from paps from around 2012 ..which were posted here once last year, and ones where she was at some Fonda family Q&A thing around 2010? where she definitely was not as skinny as usual and visibly trying to cover it up and with her outfit. So..its safe to say this is ongoing and later decided f*ck it. Probably healthy otherwise and looks to have lost quite a bit since last year. and is obviously active and far from sedintary.

Meant to also say, she obviously is dealing with something hormonal. Does appear kind of PCOS'y at times in the pics. No..it can be hard to regulate in some cases. This was on my mind earlier. To the person further up and in other threads who said they think Danny might have made her give up acting... Why on earth would he even do that? For what purpose? Cannot think of any logical reason as to why he would. He admires the Fonda family and apparently really liked Peter like a dad. And he's a huge obsessor of the movie world since he was a kid and he and Bridget were essentially in the same industry, so both understanding it. Though, her world was very different than his...but they were both in it all the same. They started dating in 2002 and got married in 2003. Her last film was 2002, "Snow Queen" and its was typically a couple years or more between her movies anyway. She had her kid in early 2005, thus probably got pregnant around 2004. So..I *really* think she just left officially after her kid was born. They were only married a year before that, so not like she went years not making a movie before birth.

And, their son is now 18 and an adult and probably going to move out, naturally, as most do that age, and who knows, maybe we will find Bridget coming out of her shell a bit more, per empty nest, and maybe even doing some non-industry public projects or might even decide to do an interview and explain stuff and put an end to all this speculating bullsh*t.
