Born Vandergrift, the son Joseph B. and Carrie Barr Wilson, he was an area dent most of his life. Wilson was a member of first class of Central Catholic High School, burgh, PA. and completed studies for the priesthood at Saint Mary Seminary in Cleveland. Bishop Edward F.

Hoban ordained John F. Wilson to priesthood for the service Diocese of Cleveland May 18, 1946 in the Church Saint Thomas Aquinas. On June 7, 1946 Father Wilson became assistant pastor of Saint Columbkille Parish, Cleveland. On 1955 he was appointed administrator of Saint Columbkille Parish. When the parish closed on ber 1, 1957, Father Wilson, who had been working the Deaf Community Saint Columbkille's, named Diocesan Director the Deaf Apostolate, residence at Immaculate Conception Parish, Cleveland.

In 1959 Father Wilson received the additional assignment of Chaplain the Port of Cleveland he held until 1967. February 27, 1964, Father Wilson was transferred Saint Augustine Parish, Cleveland as its Administrator. At this time the location of the Deaf Apostolate transferred to Saint Augustine Parish. On 13, 1968 Bishop Clarence G. Issenmann relieved Father Wilson of the responsibility for both the Apostolate and Augustine Parish and pointed him pastor of Timothy Parish, Garfield Heights.

Health problems forced Father Wilson retire on July 25, 1975. spite his health difficulties, Father Wilson still provided pastoral assistance. In he returned to the Diocese from Arizona and accepted the position of chaplain the Saint Edward Home Fairlawn where he tered for the next years before his health ther deteriorated. his tenure as Diocesan Director of the Deaf late, Father Wilson built one of the largest communities in the country. He great respect for every son and was capable communicating with one, no matter what the ability.

Wherever he was signed, Father showed a great talent bringing people together, due in large measure to ability as a storyteller as as his sense of humor, was especially valuable difficult situations. Wilson was always rounded by friends, cially his "gang" of friends who met weekly often vacationed together.
